Fall is one of my favorite seasons.  The changing color of the leaves, the subtle shift of cooler weather creeping in, the preparation for the new schedule and routine of school, not to mention my birthday that’s in there right in the heart of it all.  The cozy sweaters, apple cider and donuts, pumpkins and corn mazes, the harvest from the garden.  Even the animals outside start to prepare.  Food is stored up, and they scurry to find warm shelters.  It all starts to shift and signal to us to prepare our hearts and homes as winter is on the way.

I haven't always enjoyed all the seasons, but as I get older and have children, I am becoming more and more grateful for each of them. All too quickly our favorite seasons seem to rush by, and without intentionality and a grateful mindset, our least favorite ones seem to drag on. In an effort to slow down and enjoy the "easier" seasons, and as a way to embrace and look forward to, lets be honest, the colder ones, I've taken to the idea of fun seasonal checklists. These little lists flutter about social media and inspire us to think about what each season has to offer and to find the gifts in the simple pleasures available if we only take the time to enjoy them.

So, inspired by these, I came up with my own short list for the fall. One that I hope most families can enjoy. These are simple, nostalgic, cost effective, and of course seasonal. Get creative, and use these ideas as suggestions. Maybe you don't have pumpkin patches near you, but picking a pumpkin might be possible at your grocery store, or buying an artificial one at a local craft store. If you find you don't have apple orchards in your area, for example, is there a place nearby you could go to on a short drive or just a train ride away, or do you have a friend or relative near one and you could plan a visit? Why wait for a holiday to plan trips, when you can plan one around the seasons instead?

Take your time, there's no rush to complete the list in a month, or even finish the whole thing. Or you can make it a challenge and use my free printable to print out the PDF below to print it out and put it up on your fridge to complete each activity before fall is over. Have fun, enjoy fall, and glory in God's beautfy and creativity this season. Let me know in the comments below, what is your favorite fall activity?
