Never Too Late to Start
Even though we are now a few months into the year 2026, I'm still excited for many things, but one thing I look forward to each year is all the books on my reading list. I love reading, and often times it seems the more books I read, the more I find I want to read. All year long I listen to podcasts and recomendations from friends, or use great books as spring boards to follow authors I love and their contemporaries. I try to jot down titles or collect books that sound appealing and will deepen me as a mother, a wife, a child of God. I want to grow and keep learning my whole life.
Below is a list of books I've been wanting to read, have been reading this year, or finished up from last year. I find more books to add to the list each week it seems, so though this list is getting posted, we'll see at the end of the year how it matches which books I actually finish and read first! Fair warning a number of these books are a bit tricky to find, I think they are going out of print, or I know at least one author was censored back around 2020-so if you can get a used copy or find one at a library bonus points!

2026 Reading List

This was the first book I finished in the new year that I started at the end of 2025. It is Jamie's newest book and she is one of my favorite authors. Two years ago I read her Holy Hygge book on Christian hospitality, and it was life changing, still stands as one of my favorite books, and last year I read her Home School Bravely, which I talked about in my last post, Books I Read in 2025. This book talks about both the spiritual side of motherhood, and also very practical tools to help you in a variety of mom struggles when we hit seasons of overwhelm.
The second book I finished this year was...
The Unselected Journal of Emma M. Lion Vol. 1 by Beth Brower
This book was given to me by a friend and fellow book lover, for Christmas. I had never heard of it but it was a fun read that left me wondering what will happen to Emma? I'm excited to follow on her journey to see, in The Unselected Journal of Emma M. Lion Vol. 2, will her relative's poor financial decisions impact her future, or will her smart thinking and resourcefulness pay off to keep her from losing her family inheritance?
A new favorite, It felt like I flew through this book at the beginning of this year, though I think I read it at a normal pace, which for me is often about 10 mins before bed each day. I was fascinated by the book as I had heard Dr. Flynn in a couple of podcasts and the book continued to provide amazing stories of people healed, and lots of information about hormones, the problem with only using the traditional health care model without looking at the homeostasis of the body and what it's commmunicating to us about our connected overall health. If you are interested in things about hormones, fertility, cancer, cholesterol and high blood pressure, inflammation, medications for mental health, he address a wide variety of topics. This book is getting hard to get hands on, and I think it's because certain people don't want it on the market. Can't wait to read his second book, I Still Disagree.
Still Reading...To Read...
And since I make it a habit" to read usually at least three books at a time, the following 3-4 have been started as well, and are going great. But I will only comment on one more, the rest you will have to wait for my "review," hopefully, at the end of the year.
Every since my brief, one semester of seminary, I have been fascinated by Edith and Francis Schaeffer, and also their daughter Susan in recent years around schooling choices, Charlotte Mason approaches and homeschooling methods and curriculumn. I knew I wanted to read one sort of "biography" this year, and as I prayed and thought about who that would be this couple came to mind.
This book has been anything but dull. In the opening pages you are thrown into the time they survived a mudslide and avalanche in the Swiss Apls, and learn how they packed up and left all they knew as they moved to Switzerland with their children in the 1950s. Their heart was to share the gospel in a quickly growing post-modern culture buying into the philosophy of relativsim. In this book, Edith recounts in her own words about their time there and how God used them, to essentially create a community and safe haven for travelers from all over the world to come stay and seek out answers to life questions, all with the hope of encountering the true Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. So far their adventures have not disappointed, not in the least.
