The month of November always gets me thinking about Gratitude. Here in the US, we celebrate Thanksgiving, a national holiday, that fosters everyone to slow down and remember to be Thankful.

And gratitude is such an important element in Scripture as well. We are to give thanks to the Lord in all things (1 Thes. 5:16-18 ESV), to put down worry, and instead bring God our requests with an attitude of Thanksgiving (Phil. 4:6 ESV). It’s amazing how simply changing our attitude to one of thanks in prayer, can change the heart and mind!

Having a mindset of gratitude has truly changed my life. The Bible tells us to take our thoughts captive (2 Corinthians 10:5 ESV), and to be transformed by the renewing of our minds (Romans 12:2 ESV). And neuroscience tells us, we can actually rewire our brains by choosing which pathways we use the most! We can choose negativity, or gratitude!

As I thought about an activity to do this month, I knew I wanted to be working on the habit and mindset of gratitude with our son. I thought about writing down things that we are grateful for, but I also wanted it to be fun for him. Tractors are ALL the rage in our home right now, and a idea came to mind.

At first what began as an idea for a cute craft developed into something deeper once I thought about it. What if we choose the pathway of gratitude, and train those pathways, just like plowing lines deep in our heart and mind? And what if each grateful thought was like seeds? When we plant seeds of gratitude in our heart and mind, with the Holy Spirit’s work, it usually produces the fruit of joy and peace in our lives and overtime we become actually grateful people, instead of just a person who has a few grateful thoughts.

Enter in activity “Sowing Seeds of Gratitude.” Below I have included a printable set of stencils to cut out (I recommend printing on card stock), and then tracing the pieces onto construction paper that your child can assemble into a tractor and interact with the art work to display what they are grateful for. See instructions and find the attached FREE printable below and have fun creating!

If you do choose to make this project, please tag me on instagram @KenzieDeGraaf I would love to see it and read what you are grateful for.

Sowing Seeds of Gratitude!

  1. Print and cut out the tractor template below.

  2. Trace the template onto construction paper and use scissors to cut out the pieces.

  3. Glue the tractor together onto a piece of paper.

  4. Use markers to draw plow lines behind the tractor.

  5. Write down something you are grateful for on each line, as you sow your seeds of gratitude.

  6. Write out the following Bible verse onto the top of the page. I will give thanks to the LORD with my whole heart;” Psalm 9:1a ESV

*Bonus idea* if you have any pumpkin seeds left from carving activities this fall, glue some onto the page as an added visual! (Or some from your pantry work too!)
