Last week as I sat rocking our son at nap time I was hit with a wave of fear. An opportunity to worr, or choose to pray and trust God. We are currently monitoring something in our pregnancy that is not new information, but in a moment of quiet my thoughts raced. And immediately, as I sat there, God kept pouring His comfort and presence into my heart with truth from His word. Truths like these.
The enemy is the “father of lies”
But Jesus is “the way and the truth and the life.”
The enemy wants to “steal and kill and destroy.”
Jesus came to give life.
The devil wants to harm us.
Jesus is the good shepherd.
Later I looked up the verses. And the truth was there-the stark contrast between the harm the Enemy has for us, and the good Jesus offers instead. The comfort of God’s word, of its never wavering timeless truth, in a world of constant change, and a life of daily struggles, is such a balm to my soul.
Hiding God’s word in our heart is SO important. And be encouraged, we don’t have to have each reference memorized to do so. Praise God for His Holy Spirit who can remind us of His truth- and for tools to look up those verses when we can’t remember where they are. (See verse references below.)
I am also reminded of the power of a praying community. Not only do we get to pray through these truths, but having others in our circle who can also pray for us, over us and with us, is such a gift. Sometimes circumstances seem scary, overwhelming, discouraging, down right devastating, yet praise God He has designed His family to be there for one another and lift each other up in those hard times through prayer and other practical means.
So wherever you are today, dear one, remember Gods character and the truth we can find in scripture. Surround yourself with other Jesus loving people you can trust and who will lift you up in hard times and good. Praying for you that you would feel God's presence, comfort and peace.
