One thing I try to be mindful of as a mom of littles is to make sure I am getting intellectually stimulated. I want to be feeding my brain and keeping myself thoughtfully educated. So I’ve decided to try to read two books each month. One fiction book, and the other a nonfiction book. I predominantly try to do this by reading 10 minutes in the morning as part of my quiet time, and 10 minutes before going to bed. I have been surprised how much reading I can get done with a little consistency overtime!

My reading isn’t always perfectly on track, but having goals and a reading list helps. I’ve also swapped out time on YouTube or watching other shows at night, and opted for reading instead. As my fiction books I’ve been trying to work my way through more “classic” books. Like CS Lewis, Tolkien, MacDonald, Laura Ingalls Wilder etc.

I’ve fallen just a tad behind, but I’m ok with that (the month of September was very busy for us). Through the last couple months I have read The Pilgrim’s Progress by John Bunyan* as my “fiction book” and The Lifegiving Table by Sally Clarkson* as my non-fiction.

Pilgrims Progress* is a fictional tale of Christian, a man, and his journey to the Celestial City. Written by John Bunyan while he was imprisoned for his faith, and first published in 1678. John writes and makes a world, in which the spiritual life of a Christian believer of Jesus, our temptations and struggles, come to life, to show what our journey to eternity with Jesus in heaven would look like as a physical journey. So creative!

The Lifegiving Table* is book 2 in part of a series I have been reading through the summer and fall, and have really enjoyed written by the Clarkson family. The Lifegiving Home*, The Lifegiving Table* and finally The Lifegiving Parent*. I’m just finishing the 2nd, and getting into the 3rd, but each book has been wonderful, and the Clarkson family’s missionary background, and ministry focused on the family has been so inspirational. They have lots of wonderful ideas of how to incorporate faith into the home and cultivate a healthy, Christ based, family culture. The Lifegiving Table talks about the connectedness that comes through food, food’s significance in scripture, and even includes recipes at the end of most chapters!

I invite you to grab a copy of these at your library, local bookstore, used bookstore, or check out my Amazon links* below and join me!
