Fall Kid's Books - November

Updated: 2 days ago

Fall kid's books about gratitude and the changing season were fun books to read at our house these past couple months.

Remember last month when I told you our library requests for fall books hadn’t come in yet? Well, right after the October Preview went out, they came! And I am happy to share they were worth the wait. While there are a LOT of children’s books out there these days, not all children’s books are created equal. I’m a firm believer in quality over quantity, and that isn’t different for the books we read. I’d rather re-read some great books, than fill our shelves and minds with mediocre books. But these fall books don’t dissapoint! In fact two of them I thought were so good, and then realized that they were from authors we already loved.

From the author of the God Gave Us Series, comes God Gave Us Thankful Hearts. Sweet little pup is not ready for winter. He’s sad that many of his friends will hibernate, and isn’t looking forward to the snow. His mama and papa remind him that even in things we don’t fully enjoy, there’s almost always something to be grateful for. Little pup catches on and learns how to have a grateful heart.

An adorable picture book about three little squirrel siblings whose mama knits them fall sweaters. They are thrilled to wear these warm red sweaters as they go outside and explore all the changes autumn is bringing and the beautiful change in colors.

Though winter doesn’t technically start in the US until December 21, pretty much right after Thanksgiving most people mentally shift into that mindset with Christmas right around the corner, so this feels very fitting on a November bookshelf. Another book that is part of a series on seasons, this book walks kids through a whole bunch of changes we see around us in the changing season as the earth transitions from fall to winter.

Great for reading with smaller children, I especially loved to read this to our baby, as the fall colors are vibrant, and the book is not too long. Not really about the Hungry Caterpillar, but he’s found throughout the story. Teaches basic fall activities and changes we see in the season.

If you like the Llama Llama series as much as we do, you will probably fall in love with this book too. Anna, does it again, creating a loveable little character. She tells a cute little story, in rhyming fashion of course, about a little excavator who wants to be like all the big trucks, but he’s just too little-resonating with children who are trying hard and wanting to “help” the grownups. Grab it for yourself to see what special little job only he can do!
